Integumentary 1 - The Skin We're In
Objectives (TLWBAT)
Lesson Notes: Much activities. Very collaboration. Wow.
Lesson start: Passed out amazing facts about the integumentary system handout (TBL) and reviewed homework. You guys did a really good job and I enjoyed reading your words you made up using word roots!
Hierarchy of Biological Organization: From a word bank, students labeled circles of varying sizes to model the hierarchy of biological organization from the atom to the entire organism. We discussed why this is significant and noted how we would use the hierarchy of organization when discussion the systems and disorders. Passed out the cell bio and biology rules handouts.
Integumentary System Anatomy and Physiology: Discussed the main parts of skin anatomy and physiology by creating a group poster. Since we did not complete this poster I will finish it with the relevant details about the integument. You guys will get a chance to look at this complete poster and use scaffolded notes to summarize the information on the poster.
Skin Recipe Activity: We made model skin using various ingredients. The recipe instructions are located on this google doc for those of you not present or who would like a review.
Presentations: Supplementary powerpoint from 2014, modified slightly for 2015.
Homework: Reflection about the skin recipe activity. Even if you were not there you are still expected to complete this as it sums up some of the major structures and functions of the integument! AND add to the running vocab list.
Objectives (TLWBAT)
- Describe the structure of the skin
- Know the functions of the skin
- Understand how anatomy and physiology relate in the integumentary system
- Understand the hierarchy of biological organization
