Skeletal III: Osteo-what??Objectives (TLWBAT)- Know the various parts of bone tissue.
- Understand how bone cells make up bone tissue.
- Learn about bone growth and remodeling.
- Understand fracture terminology.
- Apply their previous knowledge to the new content to gain a deeper understanding of the skeletal system.
Notes: Whiteboard lecture: a short lecture about bone cell anatomy and physiology was given on the whiteboard. Color references were displayed on the projector screen to give clarity to the drawn pictures. Students followed along by taking notes. Bone remodeling wheel: We also reviewed the bone remodeling cycle at the whiteboard quickly before making a bone remodeling wheel which showed the various stages of the process. The wheel came with a short review which we then went over while using the wheel. Fractures: to learn about fractures, we first watched a video about them and reviewed some fracture terminology. We then cut up straws in ways which represented all the different types of possible fractures and taped them to paper. After learning about how a bone is fractured, we watched a video about how they are repaired. Presentation: Skeletal IIIHomework: Worksheet (same as last lesson, no new homework was assigned because of the proximity of the next lesson date).
