Muscular II: I like the way you moveObjectives (TLWBAT)- Gain a deeper understanding of muscular physiology.
- Understand how movement is described in the muscular system (origin, insertion, action, agonists, antagonists).
- Know what a jigsaw is and why it is useful in the classroom.
Notes: Began lesson with a muscle anatomy quiz to test retention of last week's lesson. After giving time to complete the quiz and offering book resources to help you, we reviewed the answers. Movement: Defined origin, insertion and actions of muscles with a brief lecture. We then practiced understanding of these terms by using them to describe how your muscles move to do the macarena and playing a game of simon says. Jigsaw: Students were given time and topics to research for a jigsaw activity. You are not expected to go into cellular detail but rather keep your presentations fairly general and gross when it came to the following topics: how do skeletal muscles move bone and maintain posture?, how to muscles produce heat and what are the effects of exercise on the system?, and what are the effects of aging on the muscular system?. Next time we will open with your peer's short (no more than 5 minutes) presentations on these topics which include a summary sentence and picture. Presentation: None, however I recommend using pages 195-217 in your textbook for reference. Homework: Finish jigsaw and/or coloring
