This week your homework assignment is all about vocab! Knowing vocabulary is going to be essential, and with many terms to be learned especially in the skeletal and muscular system we're going to have to employ multiple different strategies to get you familiar with new words. The first of which was introduced in the 11/5 lesson and now you will get a chance to practice it with this homework assignment.
This week your assignment will have two parts.
Please note: you are posting in two threads this week. A reply to the running vocab list to address part 1 and a reply to this thread to address part 2.
Part 1) Add to the running vocabulary list.
If you have been browsing the forum you may have noticed the running vocabulary list thread. It is here that you all will contribute to a vocabulary database.
After every lesson you will add 1-3 words that you previously didn't know or a word you think is important and should be included in the list. Most of the time I will try to give you guys work time to do or start this since you will usually have additional homework to complete. But since this week is all about vocab I thought it would be a great way to introduce and have you start contributing to the list by including this in the homework assignment.
You will post a word, define it and provide an example. For more information and detailed instructions please visit the running vocabulary list thread where you will also notice an example reply.
Part 2) Create 3 words using word parts.
When you see a big word or a word you don't know, you can sometimes break it apart using word parts if it is a descriptive word. These words make up a majority of anatomical terms and becoming familiar with them will be a huge advantage to you! But remember the difference between descriptive words and eponyms. To get you familiar with word parts and using them, I would like you to create 3 new words using word parts. A list of word parts can be found here but you can look for word parts from other resources such as your textbook or the internet (and websites like wikipedia).
I would like you to follow this format:
word you made up
definition.
roots and their meanings.
example (make something creative up!)
--
The lesson summary is posted here for those of you who would like a review and/or ideas for your addition to part one.
Additionally, if you learned anything new please add it to the L column of your KWLS chart and save it (you do not need to submit it to me).
The vocab homework is due 11/11 at 11:11pm!
Thank you all again for being so wonderful!
